Day 28

Message

SUNDAY, JANUARY 28th

LOVING GOD in the New year.

Matthew 22:36-38 [NLT] “Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?” 37 Jesus replied, “‘You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ 38 This is the first and greatest commandment.”

THOUGHT for TODAY:

Covenant Life Church has a two-fold Mission Statement. The first part is to: LOVE GOD. Our goal, every day, as a Christian, is to love God with all that we are. That’s what a mission is: a strongly felt ambition, aim, or calling. It is our first and highest priority. God first loved us and showed us His love by sending Jesus to die for our sins. We reciprocate God’s love for us by living our lives unto Him. Love is a choice, not just a feeling. We choose to love God when things are going well for us and when they are not. We choose to love God when we understand and when we do not understand everything that is happening in our lives. We choose to love God when our prayers are answered and when they have not been answered. Every day we make a conscious decision to love God. We live for and love God because of His love for us. Loving God changes everything!

Scripture

1 John 5:3 [AMP] “For the [true] love of God is this: that we do His commands [keep His ordinances and are mindful of His precepts and teaching]. And these orders of His are not irksome (burdensome, oppressive, or grievous).”

1 John 4:19 [NIV] “We love because He first loved us.”

Mark 12:29-30 [NIV] “Of all the commandments, which is the most important?” 29 “The most important one,” answered Jesus, “is this: ‘Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one.  30 Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.’”

Luke 10:25-28 [TEV] A teacher of the Law came up and tried to trap Jesus. “Teacher,” he asked, “what must I do to receive eternal life?” 26 Jesus answered him, “What do the Scriptures say? How do you interpret them?” 27 The man answered, “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your strength, and with all your mind’; and ‘Love your neighbor as you love yourself.’” 28 “You are right,” Jesus replied, “do this and you will live.”

Prayer

Father, I love You. Thank You for loving me. Holy Spirit, help me to love God with my whole spirit, soul, and body and with my mind, will, and emotions. I desire to love You with all my heart and with all my strength. I choose to love You, first, and for You to be first in my life. Forgive me for failing to love You. Forgive me for not being obedient to Your commandments and Your Word. I repent of my sin. I choose to love You above everyone and everything in my life. I ask for strength and blessing in the name of Jesus, amen!

What to pray

  • Pray for a conscious awareness to love God daily more than anyone or anything else.

  • Ask the Holy Spirit to convict you when you begin to stray away from putting God first in your life, loving Him, and obeying His commandments.

  • Pray for others to see and feel the love you have for God and that it will bring change to their lives like it has for yours.

  • Surround yourself with others who have an infectious love of God.

  • Daily speak over yourself that you will love God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.
