TUESDAY, JANUARY 23rd

Praying for SOCIAL MEDIA in the New Year.

Philippians 4:8-9 [GNT] “In conclusion, my friends, fill your minds with those things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honorable. 9 Put into practice what you learned and received from me, both from my words and from my actions. And the God who gives us peace will be with you.”

THOUGHT for TODAY:

The Bible does not directly talk about using social media. It does, however, tell us how we should conduct ourselves, how we should treat others, and how to reflect Christ into the world. While Face Book, Instagram TikTok, YouTube, WhatsApp, and others like these, is never mentioned in the Bible, all these things apply to how we create, consume, and interact on social media. Our social media profiles and interactions should shine Christ’s light into the lives of others. The world is full of darkness. As a Chrisitan, we can shine God’s love, Jesus’ sacrifice, the Holy Spirit’s power, and God’s Word into that darkness. Use your social media outlets to make a difference for eternity. Be different. Be bold. Be the light.

Scripture

Matthew 5:13-16 [GNT] “You are like salt for the whole human race. But if salt loses its saltiness, there is no way to make it salty again. It has become worthless, so it is thrown out and people trample on it. 14 You are like light for the whole world. A city built on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and puts it under a bowl; instead, it is put on the lampstand, where it gives light for everyone in the house. 16 In the same way your light must shine before people, so that they will see the good things you do and praise your Father in heaven.”

Ephesians 5:8-11 [GNT] “You yourselves used to be in the darkness, but since you have become the Lord's people, you are in the light. So, you must live like people who belong to the light, 9 for it is the light that brings a rich harvest of every kind of goodness, righteousness, and truth. 10 Try to learn what pleases the Lord. 11 Have nothing to do with the worthless things that people do, things that belong to the darkness. Instead, bring them out to the light.”

Prayer

Father, I pray for righteousness, peace, joy, and the light of Your Word to shine through all my social media interactions. May people always see God in everything I post and every comment I make. I pray that You will use all these different platforms to carry the Gospel of Christ to all people everywhere. Let every picture I post, everything that I “like” and “share” always be in line with the Word of God. Forgive me where I have let my guard down and posted things that do not reflect the Kingdom of God. I ask for Your strength and blessing in the name of Jesus, amen!

What to pray

Look over all your social media to see if there is anything that contradicts your confession of Christ. If you find something, remove it.
Pray for God’s wisdom in what you say and post and for what you share and like.
Delete posts that have been shared on your social media platforms by others that do not reflect the Kingdom of God.
Ask God for His favor in the lives of everyone that reads and looks at your posts so that you can share Jesus with them.
Be careful and be prayerful who you allow into your life through social media.
