GOVERNMENT
1 Peter 2:13-17 [AMP] “Be submissive to every human institution and authority for the sake of the Lord, whether it be to the emperor as supreme, 14 Or to governors as sent by him to bring vengeance (punishment, justice) to those who do wrong and to encourage those who do good service. 15 For it is God's will and intention that by doing right [your good and honest lives] should silence (muzzle, gag) the ignorant charges and ill-informed criticisms of foolish persons. 16 [Live] as free people, [yet] without employing your freedom as a pretext for wickedness; but [live at all times] as servants of God. 17 Show respect for all men [treat them honorably]. Love the brotherhood (the Christian fraternity of which Christ is the Head). Reverence God. Honor the emperor.”
There has now been a “changing of the guard” in Washington, D.C., as of Monday, January 20, 2025. Scripture encourages and commands us to submit, honor, and pray for our government leaders. Pray for our leaders to have wisdom, humility, and strength to accomplish the great task of leading the American people. Pray for unity so that decisions can be reached quickly that positively affect the lives of every American. Pray for the qualities and characteristics of good and stable leadership to affect the hearts and minds of our leaders. The United States Government is divided into three parts, or branches: the legislative branch, the executive branch, and the judicial branch. Each branch has a different duty, but all three branches must work together. We have local and state government leaders that need to be prayed for every day, as well as our national leaders. By obeying this directive from the Holy Spirit, we not only bring God’s blessing upon our own life, but it is also a witness to the unbeliever to the lordship of Jesus Christ. Pray for our nation and all our government representatives.

Scripture
1 Timothy 2:1-3 [ETRV] “First of all, I ask that you pray for all people. Ask God to bless them and give them what they need. And give thanks. 2 You should pray for rulers and for all who have authority. Pray for these leaders so that we can live quiet and peaceful lives—lives full of devotion to God and respect for him. 3 This is good and pleases God our Savior.”
Confession: I pray for all people to be blessed and to be given what they need. I pray specifically for our government representatives. I give thanks for the men and women who serve the people of the United States of America. I commit to pray for them so that I/we (the American people) can live quiet and peaceful lives. May our leaders be devoted to God.
Psalm 22:28 [NLT] “For royal power belongs to the Lord. He rules all the nations.”
Confession: God, You are all powerful. I am thankful that You rule all nations. I pray that the nations of our world will follow You and Your decrees, standards, and principles. May your influence be seen in the United States of America and in my city.
Proverbs 21:1 [NIV] “The king's heart is like a stream of water directed by the Lord; He guides it wherever He pleases.”
Confession: I pray for our President that his heart would be like a stream of water and that You are directing his life and decisions daily. Guide our President to do and say what is pleasing to You and Your will for the United States of America. Send Your angels to watch, guard, and keep him. May You truly have his heart.

Prayer
Father, today we pray in agreement with the prayer of Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd President of the United States of America: “Almighty God, You have given us this good land for our heritage. We humbly ask You that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Your favor and glad to do Your will. Bless our land with honorable endeavor, sound learning and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord and confusion, from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties and fashion into one united people the multitude brought here out of many nations and tongues. Endow with the Spirit of wisdom those to whom in Your Name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that through obedience to Your law we may show forth Your praise among the nations on earth. In times of prosperity fill our hearts with thankfulness and in the day of trouble do not allow our trust in You to fail.” In the Name of Jesus I pray, amen.
